Living The Peace of God

When you live in the Peace of God, you live in a mind so quiet and peaceful, that you will not be disturbed by anything “of the world”. This constant experience of peace, is being “in the world, but not of it” because all seeking has ceased, forgiveness has been completed and there is an awareness of perfect Oneness with God. This state of peace comes after a complete surrender. You have emptied your mind of everything it thought to be true, false, good or bad. You have let go of every thought the past has taught you. You have let go of the world, the course and have come with wholly empty hands unto your God. A complete surrender to God. Coming to Him, who is the infinite, all-encompassing tenderness of boundless Love. In that coming to God, we come to know ourselves as the infinite, eternal, vast Love that created us.

We let go of all idols and our mind rests in the Peace of God. We experience ourselves as the Love of God. We “know” ourselves to be that Love. And in that experience, there are no desires for worldly idols. There is only peace. We are no longer “of the world”.

In the manual for teachers, Section 20 “What is the Peace of God? Jesus offers these words: “It has been said that there is a kind of peace that is not of this world. God’s peace is recognised at first by just one thing: in every way it is totally unlike all previous experiences. It calls to mind nothing that went before. It brings with it no past associations. It is a new thing entirely. There is a contrast, yes between this thing and all the past. But, strangely, it is not a contrast of true differences. The past just slips away, and in its place is ever lasting QUIET. Only that. The contrast first perceived has merely gone. Quiet has reached to cover everything.

He goes on to say “Forgiveness is the necessary condition for finding the Peace of God”. So, if you find yourself being “of the world”, in other words caught up in the egos thought system about the world, the practice of forgiveness is necessary to find the Peace of God. Forgiveness, in essence, is raising all your thoughts to doubt. Raising them to Jesus or the Holy Spirit so they can replace them with truth. Each workbook lesson repeated and applied to ego thoughts, is the practice of forgiveness. Anytime your mind shifts from fear-based thinking to love based-thinking (the miracle), you have practised forgiveness. Each small shift, brings your mind, closer to the Peace of God.

Let us now explore a few sentences from the following paragraph -

“Forgive the world, and you will understand that everything that God created cannot have an end, and nothing He did not create is real. In this one sentence is our course explained. In this one sentence is our “practicing” given its one direction. And in this the Holy Spirit’s whole curriculum is specified exactly as it is.”

The first sentence of the above paragraph, mirrors the summary at the start of A Course in Miracles. Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the Peace of God.

These sentences point us directly to the full teaching of A Course in Miracles. Nothing real can be threatened means we are not bodies but spirit, therefore we cannot be threatened. Nothing unreal exists points to the seeming world of form, including earth, planets, bodies, animals, houses and jobs which do not exist. They are all totally unreal. An illusion. There is no world.

The world we think we live in, never happened except as a dream, but even the dream did not happen. When we come to accept and live these teachings, we start to identify ourselves as spirit or mind, rather than a body and then turn away from seeking for happiness in a world that doesn’t exist. Gently and slowly, our mind is healed of its fear of peace, death and God. We are called to spend more time in silence, by joining with God and going within. The path that Jesus gives us, in his course is awakening from the dream via Holy Relationship.

Holy Relationship is the way Home. It means we relate to everything and everyone, through the Holy Spirit. Our relationships are healed by relating to them, through our Holy Mind rather than the false ego mind that knows nothing. The Holy Spirit enters our mind and corrects our perception of “others, situations and events”. This correction undoes the ego and the mind starts to experience the Holiness of everyone and everything. Everyone becomes our Holy Brother and we only want to bless and help our brothers who are one with us.

My experience with the Peace of God.

In January 2015, my mind entered the Peace of God. My mind became so beautifully quiet it was amazing. I felt the contrast that Jesus talks about. It was like there had been a radio on in the background all my life and I was so used to it, I didn’t notice it. And then, suddenly, the radio was turned off. The difference was very noticeable. The “radio” is the egos commentary of thoughts which are judgements of myself, others and the world going constantly through my mind all day and night.

This ego “radio” commentary is a constant stream of thought or voice that judges and compares. We are so used to that voice that it feels “normal” to have it in our mind. During the awakening experience, that ego voice got turned off. It just stopped. The absolute quietness felt so different, I was stunned. There was this most beautiful silence that I had never experienced before.

It was like clicking the mute button whilst watching a football match. Before the mute, the commentators voice judges and compares every move and kick of the match just like the ego judges ourselves, others and the world. When we click the mute, it can feel nice to have the silence. We still watch the images moving around on the screen, but there is no commentary. That is what the quietness is like. The mute button has been pushed on the ego and there is just this beautiful lovely quiet mind.

From this quiet mind, bubbles up happiness and joy. Easily and effortlessly. In this lovely silence, is the joining with God our Creator. This is experienced as being in a Song of love and gratitude with God. The Son and Father singing to each other.

I sing to God every day and he sings back to me. The Song never ceases. We sing to each other all day long. The voices and harmonics are so beautiful. I am One with God and feel his gorgeous Love. I don’t experience myself as separate. That “separate self” is actually not real but held together by beliefs about itself. Forgiveness undoes all beliefs and thus undoes the idea or concept of a separate self.

My mind feels this vast, beautiful, Holy Love. I see everyone as the Christ they are because I know that’s who they are. I have no interest in bodies anymore and don’t notice them much. Because the ego has left my mind, I experience constant joy and peace. There are no judgements or comparisons any more. All this I have, because I practiced forgiveness without compromise. I live in the Peace of God because I was willing to do the lessons the way he asked me to. I undertook a two year period to completely undo the ego. I feel so blessed to live with the Mind of God and I encourage everyone who reads this article to dedicate and commit to practicing the lessons and teachings of ACIM and develop trust in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will help you every time you ask. He will remind and correct all errors of thinking. Our part is very small. We just need to willingness to ask him to help. When we do ask, he will answer.

I would also encourage everyone to read The Disappearance of the Universe and listen/read Ken Wapnicks teachings. These were my main teachers I followed on my path. I have read DU and ACIM at least 20 times. Jesus says "That each small step clears away part of the darkness". So we must look at time and the world for taking small steps in practicing forgiveness until the experience of Peace enters our mind. You can have this experience of being One with God. You can be “in the world, but not of it”.
